Got Keto Breath?

Coach Rachel Primo offers a solution

Oh, the dreaded keto breath!

Rachel Primo

I’ve been awfully aware of my breath lately and it really is a good thing that I work from home and don’t have to speak with people directly, or I would be brushing my teeth every hour. But not everyone can avoid people in order to hide their breath.

The smell is caused by the release of acetone when we’re fuelling on fat effectively. This is a good thing, as then we know we are in ketosis… but it can also be embarrassing.

One thing you can do – aside from brushing your teeth constantly and using a tongue scraper – is oil pulling. For those who are unfamiliar with it, oil pulling is putting a tablespoon of coconut oil (or other oil) in your mouth and letting it melt, and then swishing it around for about 20 minutes. This can be easily added to your morning routine before you hop in the shower.

Afterwards spit the coconut oil in the trash can, rinse with warm salty water, then brush normally. It will help draw out toxins in your body and improve the smell of the acetone. It can also help whiten your teeth as well – and who doesn’t want whiter teeth!

Happy fasting!

Lots of live Q&As!

This Monday, you’ve got two chances to get your questions answered live!

Megan Ramos will be live on FB with coach Jeff McCann Monday at 4 pm EST to answer questions from the Facebook community.

She returns to take questions from IDM community members later the same day at 5 pm EST.

If you have questions, be sure to stop by. But, even if you don’t, come out and catch up with the rest of the IDM community!

Women and Fasting

Last week, we got some questions about women and fasting. That’s a subject that Megan has spent a lot of time on – one she can speak to from personal experience.

Says Megan: “Is fasting a different experience for women than it is for men? Yes, it is. Do our end results differ? No, not really. Women just take slightly different routes to get the same place.”

While she goes into great detail throughout the series, if you’re looking for a good intro piece, check this one out.

I’ve been intermittent fasting for about 6 months but my blood sugar levels are still in the 250 levels when I take them around noon the next day. I’m troubled because this can’t be good for me because it seems that the insulin is not leaving but staying in my system. Why is this happening to me? Have others experienced this & what does Dr Fang suggest in those situations? I really concerned.
