Q: What kind of diet should I be on?
A: We have our roots in one of the most multicultural cities in the world. So early on, we got very good at teaching clients to fast regardless of their diet preferences. IDM does not require you to adhere to a specific diet. It is our job to help you find the right fasting regimen to fit your preferred diet and lifestyle. If you are open to making changes or adjustments to your diet, we find that combining fasting with our low-carb, whole food, healthy fat approach offers the best potential for success.
Q: Will I lose weight (or be successful)?
A: Our job as Health Educators is to partner with you and provide you with all the tools and resources you need to reach your goals in our program. Whether its weight loss, reversing diabetes, reducing medication, or improving general wellness and better health, one thing is necessary, and that’s consistency. As a client in the coaching program, consistency is the most important attribute you can bring to your IDM experience and will be a key factor in reaching your goals. We realize fasting can be difficult sometimes and we don’t expect perfection, but we do expect our clients to show up for appointments consistently.
Q: Can the IDM educators order labs and provide diagnosis and/or medical advice?
A: No. IDM is not a medical program. Your Health Educator will provide dietary and fasting counselling and education. Your medical doctor must order labs and provide medical advice (i.e. prescribe and change dosage of medication). If you wish to share your labs with your Health Educator, they would be happy to include them in your client file and comment on any dietary related items.
Q: How many calories should I eat to lose weight?
A: IDM follows a hormonal theory of obesity and does not believe in the “eat less, move more approach”. We recommend that people eat when hungry until satiated and follow the IF schedule recommended for each individual by their Health Educator.
Q: How long should I fast for?
A: Depending on your health concerns and/or goals, your Health Educator will develop a customized IF schedule that’s comfortable, safe and fits your lifestyle. Our plans range from no snacking, to skipping a meal, alternate day fasts and some extended fasting with proper guidance.
Q: Instead of group calls, can I purchase a plan that has one-on-one calls?
A: Group calls are very supportive and informative. Further, during your group call, you will have your own individual time to go over your fasting strategies and questions with your Health Educator. Our annual IDM Community Membership program does include two one-on-one sessions with a Health Educator.
Q: Why are the coaching calls group format?
A: A big part of the “magic” of this program is being part of a group of people who are all on the same journey. Leaning from others, hearing their stories and connecting with other clients is incredibly motivating and empowering. You are not isolated in your journey. You get to be part of a community of likeminded individuals taking the same steps to regain control of their health and wellbeing.
Q: How much weight will I lose per week?
A: Weight loss will be highly dependent on your metabolism, eating plan, and fasting schedule. The range is wide, and can vary from 1-7 lbs per week.
Q: How long will it take to reverse my disease?
A: It took you years to develop insulin resistance. It will therefore take more time on your part to reverse the disease. The reversal process can take time and is different for everyone. It is impossible to predict how long it will take. For some, it is a few months, for others it will take much longer. This process takes a consistent approach and above all, patience!
Q: Can my spouse or family member sit in on the sessions?
A: Your spouse or family member may sit in on the sessions as long as the objective is to further help and understand your situation, and as long as others in the group call do not mind. If your spouse wishes to do the program with you for their own goals, they would need to book a consultation with a Health Educator themselves.
Q: Do I have to count macros and/or ketones?
A: It is not required that you do either in order to be successful with fasting. Some people choose to check macros and ketones in order to help guide themselves and tweak their plans. Others choose to track these items to provide them with biofeedback or make them accountable. It’s completely up to you. Your Health Educator is happy to educate you on these items.
Q: In between group calls, how can I get support and advice?
A: All coaching clients have access to our Membership Community and resources (see below). There you will find all the getting started videos, IDM guide, community forum, Q&A section, courses and the weekly Moderator’s fast.
Q: When I register to the coaching program, will I get automatic access to the membership community?
A: No, you are not automatically subscribed to the membership community. You will be provided with instructions on how to register for the six months of free access to the membership community in your email receipt upon purchase of a coaching package.
Q: I’ve been following a keto diet for a few months and have not lost much weight. Will IF help me?
A: Choosing what you eat and sticking to a LC diet is a great adjunct on your journey to lowering insulin, but more importantly we will focus on Time-restricted eating and meal-timing.
Q: Does the IDM Program expect refraining from all food and liquids during fasting?
A: IDM does not recommend dry fasting. During fasting, clients are encouraged to consume plenty of water and replenish sodium with good quality salt. Black coffee and/or tea may also be used. “Training wheels” may be used for beginners, or for those seeking weight-loss only. These can include: cream, MCT oil, butter, ghee in coffee or tea, bone broth, pickle juice, organic, filtered apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, lime juice, plain or naturally flavoured soda water.
Q: How many sessions should I purchase?
A: You have an option to purchase 12, 18 or 24 group session. The amount of sessions really depends on your goals and how often you want to check in with your Health Educator. However, if you do feel that you wish to purchase more sessions after your initial package, we do offer a re-enrollment package that you can purchase at that time.
Q: How long do I have to decide if I want to join the coaching program after this consultation?
A: You have 6 months to decide if you want to join the coaching program. After that you will need to book another consultation first before joining the program. The fee for your consultation will be deducted from the package you choose.
Q: How do I schedule my next coaching appointment?
A: When you originally registered for the coaching program, you would have been sent instructions from your Health Educator. If you can’t find that email, please contact your Health Educator to resend to you.
Q: I don’t remember my password and the “Send Password” request is not working.
A: Most likely, you do not have a subscription in the membership community. You may have registered for coaching, but have not joined the membership site and therefore do not have a log in. You need to register for the membership community separately as a coaching client.
Q: I can’t access the membership home even though I have logged in successfully.
A: If you are getting the “Oops” error page, it is most likely a problem with your browser cache. Please clear the cache and try logging in again. If you are still having problems, contact Customer Service.
Q: What forms of payment do you support?
A: You can pay by credit card or Paypal. In the case of the 14 day free trial, we require your payment information at time of registration, but do not bill the monthly fee until the 14 days have expired. Then your subscription will be renewed and you will be charged the monthly fee for the following month.
Q: How do I cancel my subscription?
A: You can cancel your subscription to the membership community at any time. After you log in, go to Membership Home. Once you are on the home page, you will see “My Account” on the top right. Click on that and then select “My Subscription”. Please note that when you choose to cancel,
it will place your subscription into pending cancel status. You will still be able to access the site until the next renewal cycle at which point it will cancel and not charge you.
Q: Are your services covered by OHIP, Medicare, or Insurance?
A: We are not a medical program and therefore not covered by OHIP or Medicare. You can contact your healthcare insurance provider to see if they will reimburse the fees. We do not contact them.
